Deep Sleep Anesthesia
Sleep through the injections.
For many people, the most uncomfortable part of a hair transplant is the local-anesthetic injections at the beginning. Deep Sleep Anesthesia is designed to help you avoid experiencing that stage while you are awake.
You are placed into a medically controlled sleep for a short period while the local anesthetic is administered. Once you wake, your scalp is numb and the hair transplant continues under local anesthesia.
- A more comfortable beginning.
- The same careful approach to the rest of your treatment.
02 The point
The point is simple. You sleep through the injections.
Deep Sleep is not intended to keep you asleep throughout your hair transplant. Its purpose is specific: to make the administration of local anesthesia easier for patients who are anxious about needles or discomfort.
After the local anesthesia takes effect, you wake up and the team continues the procedure while your scalp remains anesthetized. Additional local anesthesia can be provided during the procedure when medically appropriate.
03 How it works
A short sleep. A different start.
- 01
Before
The anesthesia team reviews your medical history, medications and suitability, and explains the plan.
- 02
Asleep
Under appropriate medical supervision, you enter a short period of controlled sleep while the scalp is locally anesthetized.
- 03
Awake
You wake once the injections are complete. The transplant continues with local anesthesia while you remain awake.
- 04
After
The medical team monitors your recovery and gives individualized post-anesthesia instructions.
04 What you feel
What happens after you wake up?
The scalp should be numb in the areas treated with local anesthetic. You may still notice pressure, touch, movement or other sensations during the transplant. If you feel discomfort, tell the team immediately so they can assess whether additional anesthesia or another adjustment is needed.
The aim is comfort and safe pain control—not a promise that you will feel absolutely nothing.
05 Who considers it
For people who would rather not experience the injections.
If the idea of local-anesthetic injections is the main thing holding you back from a hair transplant, Deep Sleep may be worth discussing. It may also be considered for people with a difficult previous experience of local anesthesia.
Suitability is always decided individually. A preference for sedation does not mean it is medically appropriate for everyone.
06 Medical supervision
Comfort does not replace medical oversight.
Deep Sleep involves medication and therefore requires an appropriate anesthesia assessment, monitoring and medical supervision. The responsible anesthesia professionals determine whether it is suitable, what level of sedation is appropriate and how recovery should be managed.
Your safety comes before any preference for a particular anesthesia experience.
07 The anesthesia team
A dedicated medical role.
Anesthesia is a distinct part of medical care. It should be planned and supervised by qualified anesthesia professionals working with the treating medical provider.
The exact team composition for your procedure will be confirmed as part of the medical plan. We will explain who is responsible for the anesthesia before you decide.
08 The distinction
Not six hours asleep. Just the part you want to skip.
The hair transplant itself usually takes several hours. Deep Sleep is designed for the short local-anesthetic injection stage—not for the entire extraction and implantation process.
You should expect to be awake for most of the procedure, with the scalp anesthetized and the team available to address discomfort.
09 Choice and alternatives
Local anesthesia remains the foundation.
Deep Sleep is optional. Patients who do not choose it can still have their transplant with the local-anesthesia protocol recommended by the medical team.
We explain the differences during your consultation, including what to expect at the beginning, what monitoring is involved and any additional requirements for sedation.
10 Preparation
Prepared with your medical history in mind.
Before sedation is considered, the anesthesia team needs accurate information about your medical conditions, previous anesthesia experiences, allergies, current medications and supplements. Some patients may need further medical information or tests.
You will receive individualized instructions about eating, drinking, medications and arrival timing. Follow those instructions rather than general advice found online.
11 Recovery
After Deep Sleep: follow your anesthesia team.
Even short sedation may temporarily affect alertness, judgment and coordination. The team will tell you when you can leave the clinical area and what activities or travel arrangements to avoid afterward.
Your hair transplant aftercare instructions still apply separately. The anesthesia team’s recovery advice takes priority where sedation-specific restrictions are concerned.
12 Price
One treatment standard. An optional comfort choice.
Maximum Istanbul’s scalp hair transplant standard is presented at €2,500 for eligible patients. Deep Sleep Anesthesia, when medically appropriate and available, is a separate optional service.
We confirm the additional cost and what it includes before you make a decision. You should never have to guess whether anesthesia-related services are included in your quote.
13 Maximum philosophy
The Maximum Standard applies to comfort, too.
We take the same approach to comfort as we do to the rest of a hair transplant: thoughtful planning, suitable technology, professional medical supervision and clear communication.
- No unnecessary drama.
- No unrealistic promises.
- Just a better-informed decision about how you want your treatment to begin.

15 FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Will I be asleep for the entire hair transplant?
No. The Deep Sleep protocol is for the short period when local-anesthetic injections are administered. You are expected to be awake for the remaining procedure under local anesthesia.
How long does Deep Sleep last?
The protocol typically involves approximately 15 minutes of medically controlled sleep, but actual duration depends on the medical plan and individual response. It is not a guaranteed fixed duration.
Does it mean the hair transplant will be completely painless?
No medical team can guarantee that. The intention is to avoid experiencing the initial injections while awake. You may still feel touch or pressure later, and you should report any discomfort.
Is Deep Sleep the same as general anesthesia?
Not necessarily. The exact sedation or anesthesia technique must be explained by the responsible anesthesiologist. The public name “Deep Sleep” should not be treated as a technical diagnosis.
Who decides whether I can have Deep Sleep?
A qualified anesthesia professional assesses your health, medications and individual risks and determines suitability.
Can I choose normal local anesthesia instead?
Yes. Deep Sleep is an optional comfort pathway; the treating team will explain the appropriate standard local-anesthesia approach.
Is Deep Sleep safe?
Sedation carries risks, even when brief. Proper selection, qualified supervision and monitoring help manage those risks. Your anesthesia team will explain risks relevant to you.
Will I remember the injections?
The aim is that you are asleep during that stage, but experiences and recall can vary depending on the medication and depth of sedation. No guarantee should be made.
Will I need to fast?
Possibly. Follow only the personalized fasting and medication instructions provided by the anesthesia team; do not assume the same rules apply to everyone.
Does Deep Sleep affect my hair transplant result?
Deep Sleep is intended to change the experience of receiving local-anesthetic injections. It is not a hair-growth treatment and should not be promoted as improving graft survival or final density.
How much does Deep Sleep cost at Maximum Istanbul?
It is an optional additional service. The fee will be confirmed in your written quote after availability and medical suitability are checked.
Can I travel after Deep Sleep?
The anesthesia team will advise when travel is appropriate and whether you need an escort or temporary restrictions. Do not arrange immediate travel without that advice.
